At least 58,700 M5, M5 Sportswagon and 750e xDrive models will be recalled in the US due to problems with the harness leading to the air conditioning. Due to its damage, there was a risk of a short circuit in the M5 sports sedans, as well as the 7 Series hybrid sedans.
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced a large-scale recall of the “charged” M5 sedans and M5 Sportswagon station wagons.
“The recall affects several vehicle models, including the M5 Sportswagon, M5 and 750e xDrive. A company spokesman confirmed the product recall to Reuters. He said quality testing showed the need to improve cable routing in the affected vehicles,” the Reuters report noted.
A BMW representative assured that no accidents were recorded due to the identified malfunction.
The current generation of the BMW M5 sedan is equipped with a hybrid power plant with a 4.4-liter twin-turbo eight, working in conjunction with an electric motor. Total output – 727 hp. and 1000 Nm, which allow the sedan to accelerate to “hundreds” in 3.5 seconds. The station wagon is also based on the same units.
The BMW 750e xDrive has a supercharged inline-six 3.0 (313 hp), paired with a 197-horsepower electric motor, with a total output of 489 hp.
