The legendary Toyota 2JZ engine has once again proven its reputation as “indestructible”, having withstood a mileage of 660,000 kilometers. The mechanics were amazed at the excellent condition of the internal components after such impressive use. This power unit, installed in the 90s and 00s, confirmed its title as one of the most reliable internal combustion engines in history. Its design allows it to withstand enormous loads and, as an autopsy has shown, to travel hundreds of thousands of kilometers without problems, subject to basic maintenance.

A detailed inspection revealed that the cylinder head and camshafts showed only minor signs of wear and minimal carbon deposits. Experts emphasize that this condition of parts occurs in most engines after 160,000 kilometers, even with proper maintenance.

The cylinder walls retain most of the original honing with minor scuff marks in a few places. This is, of course, not ideal, but for a range of 660,000 kilometers it is still impressive. The mechanics also found a small amount of deposits in the oil pan and natural wear of the bearings, but excluding these points, the engine was preserved in almost perfect condition.

Previously, a similar study was conducted with the Honda Civic engine, which also demonstrated exceptional reliability after 400,000 kilometers. Experts note that with proper maintenance, Japanese engines are able to last significantly longer than the period stated by the manufacturer, while maintaining high performance characteristics.
