The company is going to sharply increase the range of completely “green” cars, reports Nikkei with reference to its own sources. Part of the “battery” new products will be released under the Lexus brand. In addition, the volume of electric vehicles produced will be increased to about a million per year. So far, however, sales are far from such numbers: in 2024, Toyota has implemented only 140 thousand electric cars around the world.
Now in the Toyota arsenal there are five electric cars of their own development, which are produced only in Japan and China. According to Nikkei, the company is going to establish production in the USA, Thailand and Argentina to avoid new duties and foreign exchange risks, as well as speed up the pace of supply.
Toyota promises nine new electric cars to launch in Europe in 2025 and 2026. This year, the renewed Toyota BZ4X, URBAN CRUISER and C-HR+will be seen, and in 2026 three more will join them. Also in the coming year, the Lexus line will replenish with three electric news.
Toyota will release an electric yaris. But not soon Camry, Celica and Tundra: Toyota registered in Russia more than 20 trademarks of the loss of the Toyota ex-Toyota in Russia amounted to hundreds of millions of rubles in 2024
In 2026, Toyota was going to release about 800 thousand electric vehicles. This is 50 percent less than the initial plan of 1.5 million “batteries” cars. By 2030, Toyota planned to increase sales of up to 3.5 million pieces, noting, however, that this is only an indicative number.
Now Toyota has reviewed the goals, and the reason could serve as market results: last year only 140 thousand “trains” managed to put it last year. This is a third more than a year earlier, but the share in the total sales of the manufacturer is still very modest – only two percent.
Meanwhile, Toyota is hardly coping with the demand for hybrids, the sales of which over the past five years have grown almost three times, to 16.1 million pieces per year. In Europe, you have to wait for supplies on average 60-70 days, in Japan – up to five months, in India – nine.
