The amphibian appeared in the USSR under the Lend-Lease program during World War II. They want to get 8,900,000 rubles for the all-terrain vehicle.

The Ford GPA was produced for only eight months: in the United States, the military considered the all-terrain vehicle unsuitable for navigation in open water due to the danger of flooding by waves. The SUV also often got stuck in the coastal sands. The American amphibian was not suitable for the initial tasks of amphibious assault, so most of the copies were transferred to the allies.

The USSR received 3.2 thousand amphibians, and the Red Army was able to successfully use all-terrain vehicles for offensive operations. On reservoirs without high waves, the Ford GPA came in handy, because there were no similar machines in the USSR, and using small river boats turned out to be troublesome. Soviet designers even rethought the American all-terrain vehicle: the GAZ-46 amphibian was created on its basis.
