The Wroom portal found out from plant representatives that Compass 3 is on the way: a truck with a less massive frame, a lower loading height and smaller wheels. It is expected that the smallest KamAZ will hit the production line in Naberezhnye Chelny by the end of 2025. The new product will retain a total weight of less than 3.5 tons, that is, it can be driven with a “passenger” license.
Currently, the “junior” in the KamAZ family is “Compass 5”: a truck with a gross weight of 3.5 tons and a payload capacity of 1.2 tons. It debuted in May and is now sold at a price of 4.9 million rubles, excluding subsidies. The range includes different vans, chassis, refrigerator and tow trucks.
In Afghanistan, KamAZ dump trucks with a different design began to be assembled: photo Tatarstan authorities revealed the average salary at KamAZ KamAZ handed over secret prototypes of Renault crossovers to the Ministry of Defense
“Compass 3” will inherit the cabin from the original model, so most likely the 2.2-liter turbodiesel (122 horsepower, 320 Nm) will remain under the hood, and the thrust will be transmitted to the rear axle through a 5-speed manual transmission. Currently, the minimum wheelbase is 3365 millimeters, but the small truck can be shorter. KamAZ emphasizes that the design is designed for higher loads than indicated in the official specifications.
Now KamAZ produces four families of “Compass”: the range includes “5”, “6”, “9” and “12”. Modifications with two-row cabs are on the way, and the plant may also be thinking about greater localization of production as the popularity of the model increases.
