A car with a design in the style of the legendary German SUV will be shown at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2026, and its sales should start in August.

The new BJ81 hybrid SUV should replace the BJ80 model, produced from 2015 to 2025. This model had a characteristic appearance in the style of Mercedes-Benz Gelandewagen. The successor retained this feature, but its appearance incorporated features of other famous SUVs.

The front end, with its round headlights and five-window grille, references the Jeep Wrangler, while the shape of the front fenders and headlights is inspired by a Mercedes-Benz. In keeping with the G-Class style, the new SUV also features the wheel arches and red brake calipers typical of AMG models.

Under the hood of the new frame SUV is a sequential hybrid power plant based on a 1.5 turbo engine. The gasoline engine here acts as a generator for the traction electric motors. BAIC explains this choice by the balance between power, efficiency and durability, especially emphasizing that the “four” is devoid of vibrations inherent in three-cylinder units.

The exact characteristics and total output of the installation are still kept secret. The BJ81 will make its full debut in April at an exhibition in Beijing.
