A queue lined up for electric cars of the revived Scout brand

Less than three months have passed since the premiere of the Scout Traveler SUV and Terra pickup truck, and during this time fifty thousand applications for their purchase have been collected, Volkswagen CEO Oliver Blume said. Both models are electric and have dual-motor all-wheel drive with cross-axle differentials. Both the Traveler and Terra are geared towards serious off-roading, with 305mm of ground clearance, 35-inch outside diameter tires and a beefed-up suspension for tough conditions.

The Scout brand belonged to International Harvester in the 60-80s of the last century. In 2021, the rights to this trademark were transferred to the Volkswagen Group as a result of the takeover of Navistar International, the successor to International Harvester. A few years later, Volkswagen announced that the Scout brand would be revived to sell electric pickup trucks and SUVs under that name.

The first-born Scouts of the “new wave” debuted in the fall of 2024 – Terra and Traveler. At the same time, pre-orders were opened, although the launch of the models on the market is still several years away – they will have to wait until 2027.

However, the two-year wait did not stop 50 thousand Americans who filled out applications and lined up for new Scout products. They were apparently won over by the relatively modest price (less than 60 thousand dollars), the off-road capabilities of the Terra and Traveler, and the retro design.

The Traveler SUV and Terra pickup truck are framed, they have mechanical locking cross-axle differentials and excellent geometric cross-country ability: ground clearance with tires with an outer diameter of 35 inches will exceed 305 millimeters, and the fording depth is 900 millimeters. Also during the premiere, an unlockable front stabilizer and reinforced suspension were promised for both models, which will become part of the optional equipment. Electric cars will be able to tow trailers weighing 3.3-4.5 tons and transport up to 900 kilograms of cargo.

The power reserve on one charge will exceed 800 kilometers. The battery operates at 800 volts, supports charging up to 350 kilowatts and can be used to power external consumers.
