A special Rolls-Royce Phantom was dedicated to Chinese dragons

Rolls-Royce has unveiled a Phantom with a long wheelbase and a special interior inspired by the Chinese legend of the two dragons, which is more than three thousand years old. References to it can be seen in the complex interweaving of “stars” on the Starlight ceiling and in other decorative elements made of leather and wood, made by hand.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom with the Dragon prefix tells the legend of two dragons who received a pearl from the gods for their good deeds. Instead of appropriating the treasure for themselves, each of them passed it on to the other. The gods were touched by the generosity of the dragons, and they gave them the second pearl.

Then the dragons ascended to heaven and became deities themselves, which is what the intricate “starry sky” light pattern on the ceiling refers to. The red and white dragons are depicted using more than 1,300 fiber optic light guides.

The second striking feature of the Phantom Dragon is the front panel, or Gallery as Rolls-Royce calls it, decorated with a marquetry mosaic of eucalyptus, sycamore and ash. The Goodwood craftsman spent three months cutting and shaping the veneer. The wooden mosaic also depicts two dragons playing and twirling in the clouds. They protect the “pearl” – the sedan’s analog clock.

The price of the exclusive is unknown, as is the client who will receive it. The Phantom Dragon “underlines the value of Rolls-Royce’s presence in East Asia and understanding of the importance of the market,” the manufacturer notes.

This isn’t the first dragon-themed Rolls-Royce. Last year, the company released a collection of cars for the Chinese New Year. On three cars, the front panel, headrests and ceiling were decorated with hand-made images of dragons.
