Almost one hundred State Duma deputies demand to believe the legality of increasing fines for traffic violations

Officials sent a corresponding request to the Constitutional Court. In their request, the deputies said that the amendments that increased the cost of fines were adopted in violation of the legislative procedure and may further lead to an increase in corruption among traffic police officers. If the court supports the arguments of the applicants, the law may be recognized as unconstitutional.

The request to the Constitutional Court sent 97 deputies from various factions. Officials said that the increase in fines violates constitutional principles, since measures of administrative responsibility should be based on objective data. Parliamentarians believe that an increase in sanctions will reduce the number of violations, and excessive fines will make their payment difficult. In addition, an increase in tariffs can lead to the development of corruption, since drivers will strive to avoid administrative responsibility by unofficial ways to save money.
