The second generation car (index J11) has been sold here since May 2014, with assembly in St. Petersburg in 2015. This is one of the most popular crossovers on the secondary market. Moreover, it is not the cheapest.
The main headache is Jatco CVTs. They are massively surrendered at 50-150 thousand kilometers, even with perfect maintenance. Heat, cold, traffic jams and, especially, off-road conditions accelerate its demise, and the average repair bill is about 220 thousand rubles, said Za Rulem auto expert Sergei Zinoviev. All-wheel drive, available only with a two-liter engine and a CVT, doesn’t help either: the clutch overheats in a minute of active driving on loose surfaces.
The two-liter naturally aspirated MR20DD (144 hp) is the most common, with a service life of about 300 thousand kilometers. But after 100-150 thousand kilometers oil leakage appears due to the occurrence of rings, and by 150 thousand the timing chain can stretch. The 1.2 engine (115 hp) is even more problematic: it has an unlined aluminum block, strong oil loss from low mileage, the timing chain can stretch to 100 thousand kilometers, and the service life in general is about 200 thousand.
The steering rack and tips can withstand 40-80 thousand kilometers. The chassis also “crumbles” earlier than expected: wheel bearings, axle shafts, rear shock absorbers, and silent blocks give out faster than those of competitors. The generator often fails at 80-120 thousand kilometers, the cooling fan – after 50 thousand. Of the little things: seat heating, hood and trunk stops, and size LEDs fail.
As a result, the Qashqai J11 turned out to have a voluminous list of weak points – despite the fact that the Nissan brand has taught us a different picture of reliability. On the secondary market there are options without CVTs, and with a better reputation, for example, Korean crossovers. In the 2020 German TÜV study, the Qashqai ranked only ninth among 16 used compact crossovers.
According to the expert, if you want a Japanese crossover, you should take a closer look at Mazda or Suzuki models.
