Even the most durable motor can be damaged in a short time if you regularly make the same mistakes. Vadim Strelbitsky, director of the mechanical repair department at Avilon Kia, told Motor magazine about this.
“One of the most common problems is failure to change engine oil on time. Over time, it loses its properties, lubricates parts worse and ceases to effectively remove heat. As a result, engine wear increases, and in severe cases this can lead to cylinder scuffing and major repairs,” the expert said.
An equally serious miscalculation will be driving at high coolant temperatures; this can lead to deformation of the cylinder head and damage to its gasket, as well as other serious consequences.
Sudden loads on an unheated engine are also dangerous. In winter, many people begin to actively accelerate immediately after starting, although the oil has not yet had time to be distributed throughout the lubrication system. In such a situation, the parts run almost dry, which accelerates their wear.
In addition, the use of low-quality fuel leads to the problem. It causes carbon deposits, detonation and increased engine load.
Extraneous noises, vibrations, increased oil consumption or oil leaks are all symptoms that also cannot be discounted. The sooner the driver pays attention to the first signs of a malfunction, the cheaper and easier the repair, as a rule, is. Waiting until the engine knocks or stalls is the most expensive option, Strelbitsky warned.
Earlier it was reported that car repair prices in Russia have risen to a record high.
