AvtoVAZ commented on the transition of Lada Granta to headlights from India

The press service of the auto giant, at the request of Tarantas.news, responded to reports about the transfer of the “state employee” to Indian components. AvtoVAZ stated that “information about suppliers is sanctions-sensitive, and therefore we do not disclose data on any component.” In January 2024, the head of the plant, Maxim Sokolov, announced 99% localization of the Lada Granta and Niva families.

At the beginning of the week, the Togliatti portal Avtograd News stated that AvtoVAZ had silently switched to another supplier of Lada Granta head optics. The manufacturer from Uzbekistan (Uzchasys) was replaced by the parent holding UNO Minda Ltd from India. Such a step may be related to the need to find a use for rupees, since Indian banks hold billions in national currency belonging to Russian exporters.

Since the rupee is a limited convertible currency, switching to Indian component suppliers could be beneficial for both parties. Now the original headlight on a Lada Granta FL costs from 12 thousand rubles, but it is impossible to assess the impact of a possible change of supplier beyond the cost price. The Granta has conventional halogen headlights with dual-filament low/high beam and side/daytime running lights.

Currently, prices for Lada Granta start at 931 thousand rubles, excluding special offers. The official website maintains the “advertising” price of 699,900 rubles, but in reality such cars have not been produced for a long time. And recently, specifications with a Jatco automatic transmission disappeared from catalogs: the plant ran out of Japanese transmissions, some dealers still have previously produced cars.
