AvtoVAZ: these are the worst January-February in the last 20 years

AvtoVAZ Sales and Marketing Director Dmitry Kostromin made an important statement regarding the situation on the Russian market at a session of the ForAuto 2026 forum. In his opinion, as cited by Interfax, January-June will be difficult, but there is hope that the situation will be corrected in June-December.

“At the end of last year, we made predictions about how 2026 would begin. Unfortunately, it started even worse than we predicted. In my opinion, this is probably the worst January-February in the last 20 years of statistics,” said Dmitry Kostromin.

Analysts have yet to sum up the results of February, but the January results are as follows. According to the Autostat agency, 80,604 new passenger cars were sold in Russia last January, which is 9.5% less than a year earlier.

In the brand championship, Lada retained its leadership, delivering 19,644 cars sold to customers, which is 28.7% worse than last year. The brand’s bestseller – the Granta family – fell by 33.5%, and the Vesta model – by 62.1%.
