According to Carscoops, the flagship will lose the “Personal Pilot L3” system in favor of a simpler and more accessible Level 2 complex.
The main reason for abandoning the Level 3 autonomous driving feature is its high cost. In the current generation “seven” it cost buyers about $7 thousand (about 630 thousand rubles). It has expensive lidar sensors, powerful computing modules and complex certifications in each sales region.
The new Level 2 system, which will debut on the updated sedan, will cost only $1.5 thousand (approximately 135 thousand rubles). At the same time, it will retain key functions for the driver: hands can be removed from the steering wheel on the highway, the car will independently change lanes and be driven in city traffic jams using navigation data.
Essentially, the driver gets 90% of the convenience for a quarter of the price.
