The country’s Minister of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev, announced this during the government hour in the Federation Council. According to the official, in five years mobile Internet will be available on 98 percent of Russian roads, thanks to which motorists will be able to stay connected throughout their journey.
Currently, mobile Internet covers the M-11 Neva and M-12 Vostok highways. Moreover, on the latter there is uninterrupted access to the Network until Kazan. Next year, seamless coverage will provide mobile Internet to the M-5 Ural and M-8 Kholmogory highways, and will also extend communications to Yekaterinburg on the M-12 highway.
The speed limit will change on two toll highways in Russia. The State Duma wants to allow hybrids to drive free on toll highways. Driverless trucks will be released on Russian highways.
Along with the expansion of coverage, Shadayev said that when constructing new or reconstructing existing highways, the formation of a telecommunications infrastructure may become a mandatory requirement.
At the end of July, Vladimir Putin ordered the reconstruction of the M-8 Kholmogory highway. The President said that it is necessary to increase the capacity of the Yaroslavl highway.
