The Freelander project was officially announced in June 2024 with the aim of strengthening the position of the joint venture between Chery and Jaguar Land Rover in the highly competitive Chinese market. However, due to a changed strategy, cars of the new brand will be presented in the Middle East.
Last year, the first Freelander-badged model was spotted undergoing road tests in China. The brand and model are expected to debut in April 2026 at the Beijing Auto Show, the auto industry’s largest annual event.
The first will be a large SUV with an angular design and a length of about 5100 mm. The car is built on the E0X modular platform developed by Chery. It also underlies the Exeed Exlantix ET, Exeed Exlantix ES, Luxeed S7 and Luxeed R7 models. The car will be equipped with three rows of seats with a 2+2+2 layout. It is expected that the first Freelander will receive a 553-horsepower hybrid installation.
