The famous American manufacturer of diesel and gas engines is preparing to tighten the standards of emissions. For the first time in the 106-year history, Cummins will release a gasoline engine: it is based on a well-known inherent six-cylinder 6.7-liter diesel and adapted to another type of fuel. It’s all about future federal and California ecology requirements in the United States.
New standards of emissions for trucks in the United States will enter into force with the 2027 model year. Cummins B6.7 Octane can work on the American AI-92 gasoline analogue, while the new unit is deprived of complex exhaust gas recirculation systems, does not require urea and easier to maintain than diesel. Oil change interval – 24 thousand kilometers. Several options for the return of 200-300 horsepower are provided with a torque of 813-922 Nm.

Judging by the Cummins graphics, the gasoline unit is not inferior in peak values of torque similar to a similar 6.7-liter diesel. However, at low speeds, the motor on “heavy” fuel is still preferable. Fuel consumption has not yet been disclosed, but Cummins promises ten percent savings compared to other gasoline units and fuel tanks with a volume of 170 to 303 liters.
The gasoline Cummins will work in tandem with an 8-speed Paccar TX-8 automatic machine, and Kenworth medium-toned trucks will be the first to receive the engine. The reliability of the new motor was confirmed during tests with a total mileage of two million miles (3.2 million kilometers). The Cummins B6.7 diesel remains in the ranks for now: there is no question of his resignation.
