Cummins superdiesel for RAM will become even more powerful: 435 “horses” and 1458 Nm

Autoevolution insiders claim that heavy-duty pickups for the 2025 model year will receive a deeply modernized engine. The 6.7-liter inline six will have a different cylinder head, a different fuel line, a new turbocharger, an original intake and a high-performance oil filter. As a result, output will increase to 435 horsepower and 1458 Nm.

The Cummins diesel with peak torque of 1,458 Nm has been available for four years, but until now it produced 425 horsepower and was limited to the heaviest versions of the RAM 3500 HD. According to unofficial data, in the 2025 model year the super engine will be offered even for the “younger” 2500 series. The transmission will also change: the Chrysler or Aisin automatic will be replaced by a ZF PowerLine gearbox.

Now the German component manufacturer claims that the peak torque for this machine is 1356 Nm, which means that the entire assembly will have to be further strengthened for the Cummins engine. An alternative to a superdiesel can be a deeply modernized gasoline Hemi V8: this is not the engine that is installed on powerful Dodges, but its commercial analogue of the same name.

RAM cars are losing sales: according to the results of three quarters of 2024, 269 thousand trucks were sold in the United States, which is 19% less than in 2023. For comparison, full-size Ford F-Series pickups sold 551 thousand units over the same period, and General Motors sold 642 thousand vehicles in this class.
