According to the specialist’s explanations, drifting on public roads falls under a criminal offense.
“The driver faces up to 2 years of imprisonment or a fine of 300 thousand rubles if, while drifting on the road through his fault, other drivers, as well as pedestrians, were in danger or were injured,” said lawyer Ekaterina Nechaeva, adding that also an administrative fine of up to 10 thousand rubles may be imposed for interfering with other cars.
The lawyer added that in addition to criminal liability, the drifter can also be punished under administrative charges. For example, if during a maneuver the car entered the oncoming lane, the driver faces a fine of up to 7.5 thousand rubles or deprivation of his license.
And Nechaeva called drifting at a pedestrian crossing a separate violation: for failure to provide an advantage, people will have to pay up to 2.5 thousand rubles.
