Driver’s licenses valid until 2025 decided to be extended

Driving licenses expiring in 2025 will be automatically extended for another three years. This will allow drivers to avoid bureaucratic procedures and additional costs. The innovation will affect both individuals who use transport for personal purposes and those who use it for work and business.

According to Russian Government Decree No. 2269 of December 23, 2023, drivers will not need to make changes to their existing licenses or obtain new ones. Current licenses will be considered valid until 2028. However, if for some reason the driver wants to update the document, he can contact the traffic police for a replacement. The initiative to extend the validity of driver’s licenses came from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Economic Development. The main goal of the innovation is to reduce the administrative burden on citizens and business representatives.

The State Duma proposed to revoke the driver’s license of migrants who violate traffic rules. A violation of traffic rules has been named, for which there is no alternative deprivation of rights. In Russia they want to deprive rights for watching a video while driving.

Extending the validity period of a license will make life much easier for drivers. They will not have to waste time and money visiting the traffic police department and filling out new documents. This is especially true for those who use a car for work. Automatic renewal will allow them to continue their activities without hindrance, without being distracted by bureaucratic procedures. This measure is aimed at supporting both citizens and entrepreneurs.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Health proposed introducing mandatory drug testing when obtaining a driver’s license. The agency insists on tightening the procedure for issuing medical certificates, since the practice of purchasing certificates without undergoing the necessary examinations is currently widespread. Often this opportunity is used by drivers who were previously deprived of their license for driving while intoxicated.
