At first glance, Solano seems like a good purchase: almost 4.7 meters long, spacious interior, rich equipment and licensed engines from the Japanese manufacturer. It would seem that for 580 thousand rubles – the average price of an eight-year-old copy – you can get a conventional Toyota Corolla for half the price. The magazine “Behind the Wheel” reports this.
“However, the body of the Solano is rotting before our eyes, and in terms of the number of minor breakdowns, the sedan easily outperforms the Zhiguli. The mechanics suffer from weak bearings, and the variator after 50 thousand km turns into a lottery,” the publication says.
The main problem is that the Lifan brand no longer officially exists, and spare parts have to be collected literally bit by bit. As a result, buyers choose the proven Lada Granta or Kia Rio, leaving the large and cheap Chinese sedan without attention.
“Most of the Lifan Solano offers have mileages of less than 120 thousand km. It was not possible to make an analogue of the Corolla at half the price of the Corolla. Or rather, it was possible, but the Lifan Solano is not at all an analogue,” said Sergei Zinoviev, editor of the magazine “Behind the Wheel”.
According to him, the only thing that really succeeded in Solano was the engines. They are licensed from Toyota, with some minor modifications of their own. Everything else is doubtful.
