This conclusion was reached by analysts at Avtostat agency. According to them, in the first month of spring, the volume of imports of new cars amounted to 23.8 thousand pieces, and with mileage – 29.9 thousand pieces. At the same time, from May 2023 and to January 2025, the opposite situation was observed: new cars from a month per month dominated imports over the used ones.
In March 2025, the import of new cars grew by February by 47 percent, but decreased by 73 percent compared to March 2024. As for the used cars, they were brought 62 percent more in March than in February, but 26 percent less than in the first month of last spring.
The Avtostat believes that a decrease in the import of new machines has a positive effect on the reduction of current runoff. The director of the agency Sergei Tselikov connects the fall in their import with the fact that after downtime in Russia many car factories restored work, so the need for imports of some foreign cars fell.

Most new cars fall into Russia from China: the share of this country in the total volume of imports reaches 79.8 percent. In second place is Kyrgyzstan with a share of 7.9 percent, and in the third – the Republic of Belarus (4.9 percent). Waste machines are mainly carried from Japan (52.9 percent), South Korea (22.8 percent), and China closes the three with a share of 10 percent. If we talk about stamps, then Changan is in the first place in the number of new cars, and Toyota among the used cars.
For the first quarter of 2025, the volume of imports of new cars to Russia was reduced by 66 percent, to 71.9 thousand copies, and 82 percent of them were released back in 2024, and only 15 percent in 2025. The import of used cars over the past three months fell by 19 percent, up to 67.8 thousand pieces.
