Head of KAMAZA Karaugin: this year you can no longer produce trucks

In an interview with the corporate publication Vesti KamAZ, the top manager said that the Russian market has an excess of cars. By the beginning of the year, 40 thousand trucks from China “hovered” on the drains at the dealers, and about 20 thousand cars were returned to the lessons. The prognosis of the car market for a year is 60-65 thousand units, which means that Kamaz can “do not produce anything at all-all these cars are already there.”

Sergei Kogogin emphasized that only at the end of March, dealers began to sell more cars than they received from KamAZ, that is, for almost three months, overstrewing continued. Under what conditions the dealers managed to turn off the trend and begin to attract customers, the general director of the auto giant was silent. But Sergey Kogogin revealed the unusual feature of the car market of trucks: according to him, after a year of downtime in the warehouse, the car can be cheaper to make out spare parts, and this is “already happening now”.

In general, KAMAZ does not have new sales and sales channels, the top manager believes. Now rhythmic purchases are provided by raw materials giants like Gazprom and Rosneft, as well as the state – there is a tense state defense order. The demand for special equipment is also stable: utilities wear out and require replacement. The Moscow Park regularly updates: in 2025, the capital contracted almost 1000 units of communal equipment, as well as 400 electric buses.

The state of the truck market in 2025 calls the KamAZ general director “equilibrium.” Sales in 2023 and 2024 (135 and 111 thousand pieces, respectively) were “anomaly, excess for our economy.” In general, the commercial transport market is cyclical: there is a decrease behind growth, and then growth again, Sergey Kogogin explained. Nevertheless, KAMAZ aims to return the share of 50% of the Russian car market of trucks. Now the auto giant occupies 31% of the segment (February 2025).
