The next Civic for the American market Honda will not be released in Mexico, as it is now, but at the enterprise on the state of Indiana. According to Reuters with reference to their own sources, this decision was made against the backdrop of the upcoming introduction of 25 percent duties on the import of goods from Mexico and Canada into the United States-this is the new tariff policy of President Donald Trump.

Currently, the United States has been sold in the USA of the 11th generation Honda Civic, which was last updated in the spring of 2024 – the model is produced at the Japanese brand factory in Mexico, from where it is supplied to the United States. The next one, the 12th Civic should appear on the market only in 2027, and it will already be produced at the American brand factory in Indiana, otherwise a duty of 25 percent will apply to cars.

Now Honda supplies approximately 80 percent of Mexican -made cars in the United States, and in general, a share of imports from Mexico and Canada in the total sales of the Japanese brand in the country accounts for about 40 percent. Civic is in second place in popularity among other Honda models in the United States, second only to CR-V crossover. The company in Indiana, in turn, will be able to produce up to 210 thousand copies of Civic per year.

As for the new customs gathering for goods from Mexico and Canada, which is introduced by Donald Trump, it may begin to be charged in early March. In the future, the same tax can be introduced in relation to goods imported in the United States from Europe. So, in addition to Honda, other automobile companies, such as Porsche and Audi, are already considering the possibility of transferring production.
