The suspension of sales affected some versions of the Korean crossover of the 2026 model year in the US and Canadian markets. The Korean automaker was forced to take this step after a little girl suffered life-threatening injuries in a new Palisade in Ohio.
According to Reuters, citing a statement from the automaker, the reason for the recall campaign was the potentially dangerous operation of the electric seat adjustment, which can lead to serious consequences. The problem is that the folding mechanism for the second and third row seats may not recognize the presence of a person or object on the cushion and begin to fold.
The service campaign includes the most richly equipped versions of Palisade – Limited and Calligraphy. The reason for urgent measures was an incident in Ohio, where on March 7 a two-year-old girl received injuries incompatible with life. Hyundai did not disclose details of the incident, but expressed deep condolences to the family, emphasizing that the investigation is not yet completed.
In total, the recall will affect about 68.5 thousand cars: approximately 60.5 thousand cars in the USA and 8 thousand in Canada. Hyundai urged owners to exercise caution when using power folding seats and always check that there are no people or objects, especially children, in the movement area of the seats.
The automaker said it is working to improve the design. A temporary solution in the form of an over-the-air software update, without connecting diagnostic equipment, is planned to be released before the end of March. The firmware should increase the system’s sensitivity to obstacles and enhance overall safety. While waiting for a full repair, owners of problematic Hyundai Palisades in the USA and Canada can receive a replacement car.
Previously, Lexus equipped the LM minivan with silent tires.
