This was reported by TASS with reference to the ambassador of the African country in Moscow Genet Teshom Jirru. Ethiopia strives for the transition to “green” transport, especially in the class of cars, he said. According to him, the production of electric Lada in the country can be launched by the end of 2025.

“It is important for us that at the moment LADA is considering the possibility of switching to production [электрокаров]”, – said to Jirru and added that as soon as the transition to electric cars is completed, the company will be able to immediately begin production.

Russian cars take root well in Ethiopia, the ambassador noted, and therefore investments in local assembly are justified. AvtoVAZ products have long been familiar to the local, especially in the field of taxi, and therefore it does not need additional advertising. Until now, the old Lada also drive on Ethiopian roads.

AvtoVAZ completely revealed the new LADA E-Aura electric car: how many LADA cars were bought by the Russians at the beginning of 2025 AvtoVAZ showed the Lada B+ Cross and T-134 crossovers.

Talk about LADA production in Ethiopia has been underway for several years. Back in 2023, AvtoVAZ entered into an agreement on a local assembly with Ethio Engineering Group. In February 2024, it was reported that the parties were studying the “economic and technical capabilities of production.” Exports to other countries of the region – Sudan, Kenya and Somalia were also discussed. At what stage the project is now, it is unclear.

In September last year, AvtoVAZ began to accept orders for electric Largus and launched serial production. Prices started at 3.9 million rubles for the basic version. Now, however, E-Largus is still not on the brand website. According to the latest data, the dealers of the electric car will appear until the end of the first quarter.
