Lamborghini boss Stefan Winkelmann said the brand will delay production of an electric supercar based on the Lanzador concept until next decade. In 2026, it is planned to introduce cars with gasoline engines.
In an interview with Autocar, Winkelmann clarified: the brand’s first production electric car will appear no earlier than 2030. Previously, we were talking about the second half of the 2020s. At the same time, Lamborghini is not at all planning to switch to electricity in the near future: on the contrary, in 2026 the brand will have two new models with internal combustion engines.
The names of these models have not yet been revealed, but it can be assumed that the Revuelto, which has been on sale for the third year, will have an open-body version. The main intrigue remains regarding the Urus crossover. A Performante version with over 800 hp is expected to debut soon, which will be one of the last modifications before the generation change.
The new products are planned to be shown at major international venues – this year Lamborghini plans to participate in the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Monterey Automobile Week.
Regarding the electric future, Winkelmann spoke cautiously: the company will closely monitor how interest in electric cars spreads among the brand’s target audience. The Lanzador project, shown in concept form, has not been formally cancelled, but its release has been delayed so much that until the next decade, Lamborghini will rely on an internal combustion engine with a hybrid component, like the Revuelto and Temerario.
Earlier in China, sales of the Exeed crossover with brakes from a fighter jet began.
