China has opened applications for the updated “junior” four-door cars from Affalterbach; The flagship super hybrids have even reached the most important market with an almost two-year delay. In both cases, the naming is unusual: Mercedes-AMG A 35 L 4Matic and Mercedes-AMG S 63 LE Performance, respectively. There is nothing like this in other countries: this applies to both the body and the “tuning” of nameplates!

The fastest Mercedes G-Class presented: 1063 power and steering wheel

The “junior” Mercedes-AMG A 35 L has been restyled, and the Chinese version differs from the “global” one in having a wheelbase increased by six centimeters! The entire increase went to the rear door, so in this case the letter L (Long) is understandable. There is no upgrade for the engine: the 2.0 turbo engine develops 306 horsepower and 400 Nm, and a 48-volt starter-generator can briefly add another 14 horsepower and 250 Nm.

Mercedes-AMG

The flagship S-Class for China was not “stretched”: the wheelbase is the same 3216 millimeters. However, for the sake of image, the super hybrid is called AMG S 63 LE Performance, that is, only the nameplate has changed! The explanation is simple: in a country where all sedans (A-, C-, E-Classes) have the letter L, releasing an executive model without it is unforgivable. The power plant is the same as in other countries: with electric motors, a 13-kilowatt-hour battery and an output of 802 horsepower (1,430 Nm).

Mercedes-AMG may abandon subcompact hybrids in favor of V8

Imported Mercedes-AMGs cannot be cheap: the A 35 L 4Matic sedan costs from 409 thousand yuan ($56 thousand), and for the super hybrid S 63 LE Performance you need to pay at least 2.675 million yuan ($366 thousand).
