More cars began to be produced in Russia

Last year, 1.07 million vehicles rolled off the assembly lines of car assembly plants, according to Autostat estimates. This is a third more than the result of 2023 – 809 thousand units. Moreover, the production of passenger cars jumped most noticeably – by 41 percent, to 807.6 thousand units. But more cars were imported from abroad.

In 2024, Russian factories produced 16 percent more light commercial vehicles (143.8 thousand units) and 10 percent more trucks (107.2 thousand). Bus production also increased by five percent, to 15 thousand units.

Over the year, 1.017 million units of transport were imported into Russia (+23 percent), analysts calculated. The main category is “passenger cars”, of which 924.6 thousand were imported.

Russia may resume production of another Peugeot model. The Chinese will build an auto components plant in the Moscow region for 5 billion rubles. AvtoVAZ has resumed production of Lada.

Imports of light commercial vehicles jumped by 38 percent, to 12.1 thousand, while imports of trucks fell by one percent, to 76.2 thousand.

Increased production and import volumes affected the market: in 2024, 1.65 million passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were sold in Russia. This is 46 percent more than in 2023. However, experts predict a decline of 15 percent in 2025.
