In 2022, the Chery brand introduced an updated version of its most affordable model on the Russian market – the Tiggo 4 Pro crossover. In 2024, this car gave way to a more recent generation. We studied reviews from owners, taxi fleets, servicemen, and read more about whether this car is worth buying used in the material of Motor magazine.
In the near future, Chery Tiggo 4 Pro has a good chance of becoming one of the main bestsellers on the secondary market. This model is widespread, and the cost of used copies starts from 900 thousand rubles. At the same time, the top versions are ready to offer a powerful engine, automatic transmission and a rich set of equipment.
True, there is a pitfall in this pricing. Many cars end up on message boards straight from taxi companies with all the attendant features. And even if the mileage is short, the problem with such cars is their low residual service life, since drivers rarely turn off the engine.

The role of the base one is played by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine with a return of 113-116 hp. (SQRE4G15C). It has an extremely conservative design – with a cast-iron cylinder block, distributed fuel injection and a timing chain drive. The unit is considered to be extremely durable, and even the drive chain lasts about 300 thousand km.
A slightly more recent development is the related SQRE4T15C: at its core, this engine is a turbocharged version of the engine noted above. In terms of resource, it is not inferior to its naturally aspirated counterpart. Of the obvious disadvantages, users note only the high cost of the turbine – about 55 thousand rubles.
One of the interesting technical features of both “fours” is that the exhaust manifold is located inside the cylinder head, and therefore is liquid cooled. Both camshafts have valve timing control clutches, and the thermostat is equipped with an electronic control system.
It is recommended to change the oil every 10 thousand km, and given the presence of hydraulic compensators, you should not violate this regulation. And for the supercharged version, it is better to reduce the service interval by 20-25%. If you carry out maintenance yourself, it is important to know that the oil pan plugs for both engines are different.

The majority of the machines are equipped with a QR018CHA V-belt variator manufactured by the Chinese company WanLiYang (WLY). This unit can be found on both atmospheric and turbocharged versions, and its commercial name is CVT18. As the manufacturer notes, the steel belt is “made using Bosch technologies.”
As operation has shown, the CVT18, like many other continuously variable transmissions, does not like:
– sudden acceleration; – aggressive driving of speed bumps; – high speeds; – slipping.
Unfortunately, the variator under the symbol QR018CHA turned out to be not reliable enough: the transmission can fail at any mileage. On new machines, the issue can usually be resolved under warranty. Everyone else has to buy a new unit, the cost of which is about 200 thousand rubles.
Careful driving and regular oil changes can extend the life of the variator. The official Chery regulations do not provide for a scheduled oil change in the CVT18 (it is filled for the entire service life), however, service technicians strongly recommend doing this every 35-40 thousand km – this significantly increases the chances of the unit for a long life.

Suspension
All versions of Chery Tiggo 4 Pro have McPherson struts at the front and a simple semi-independent beam at the rear, which is much simpler than multi-link suspensions. The chassis is characterized by a “stool-like” smoothness, which makes it possible to overcome speed bumps at speeds no higher than 20 km/h.
It is still difficult to objectively assess the life of the chassis. However, obvious weak points are known: these are silent blocks and stabilizer struts. This list also includes the steering rack, but its durability depends entirely on the quality of the roads on which the car drives.

Body, interior, electrical equipment
In general, the body adequately resists Russian reagents, although the hood, front fenders, roof and trunk door do not have a zinc coating. But the interior ages quite quickly: the steering wheel peels off, the seats sag, the buttons get worn out – alas, the creators of the car used fairly cheap, and therefore short-lived, finishing materials.
In terms of electrics, the most common complaint is low beam bulbs that burn out quickly. But there is a pattern here: the worse the roads on which the car drives, the more often the light sources will go out. The rear view camera fails a little less often, but dealers try to replace it under warranty without any special obstacles.
Chery Tiggo 4 Pro is a controversial car, which you need to be very careful when choosing on the secondary market. If the engines of this model are quite reliable, then the variator, suspension and electrical system need careful diagnostics before purchase, otherwise there is a risk of having to go for repairs immediately after the transaction is completed.
