The company expects to produce two radically different versions of the Pathfinder in parallel – the current one, with a monocoque body, and a frame one, more suitable for off-road driving, based on the same platform as the Nissan Xterra model.
The all-new body-on-frame SUV, named Pathfinder, is expected to debut no earlier than 2029. It will be built on a new frame platform. The first model to try it on will be the Xterra. According to the publication’s sources, the new product will have an angular design and will be positioned as a premium alternative to the standard version. In technical terms, the frame SUV will be unified with the Frontier pickup and Infiniti QX60: it is reported that the parts of these three models will be 70% common.
The line of power units will also be divided: the basic Pathfinder crossover will be equipped only with gasoline engines, while its “big brother” on the frame will eventually receive a hybrid power plant. The current generation of the model is offered in the US starting at $41.4 thousand, but the frame version will be more expensive.
Nissan has not officially confirmed information about the release of the new frame Pathfinder, stating that “no final decisions have been made.”
