Chinese lidar manufacturer Hesai will supply lidars (laser radars) for two-wheeled vehicles to Niu Technologies. The all-solid-state lidar should monitor blind spots and thus improve driving safety.
Lidar provides a maximum field of view of 180°×140°, which allows the system to detect pedestrians, vehicles and difficult to see obstacles (such as those located low).
Hesai said it has been able to reduce lidar prices to about $200 through chip integration and mass production. In the 2010s, similar sensors cost more than $43,000.
