GTI returns, but not quite as we expected. In a conversation with Autocar magazine, the head of Peugeot, Alain Faiwi, confirmed that the French automaker will return to the “charged” 208 GTI line, which has not been produced since 2021. However, the hot hatch will be electric: the sports version will receive a battery version of the model called E-208. The power plant with it will share the subop -formal Abarth 600e.

Fayvi expects that the return of the cult designation of GTI “will help restore the image of Peugeot.” The line of sports cars will become a kind of connecting link between the civic cars of the brand and the racing pains with which Peugeot performs in world championships.

The Hatchback E-208 GTI read the same power plant as the Abarth 600E. It consists of an electric motor with a capacity of 240 horsepower, which provides an electric car overclocking from a place to “hundreds” in 6.2 seconds and a maximum speed of 200 kilometers per hour. The stem, depending on the tires, can reach 334 kilometers. ABARTH 600E has three sidelines: Turismo, Scorpion Street and Scorpion Track. Between themselves, they differ in accessible power and settings of the stabilization system.

Faivi admitted that in the future the model may have a fuel “sports” GTI version, but this will depend directly on the market requests.

Autocar, in turn, suggested that the return of the OPC sports line to the gamut of the Opel brand gamut will be a logical step. And all because the E-208 has a common component base with an electric Opel Corsa. The “charged” versions of models could compete with Alpine A290 and the extreme Renault 5 Turbo 3E.
