The model will debut in 2028 with powerful internal combustion engines and hybrid systems and will be the “twin” of the future Audi Q9.
The model, which will be one level above the Cayenne, is designed to compete with such “whales” of the luxury segment as the BMW X7 and Mercedes GLS. It was supposed to be built on the modular platform SSP (Scalable Systems Platform) of the Volkswagen concern.
However, according to Carscoops, plans have changed. The reasons are softer-than-expected demand for electric vehicles in the luxury class and, in particular, falling sales of the Porsche Taycan electric liftback. Delays in the development of software for the SSP platform also played an important role.
As a result, the K1 will move to the proven PPC (Premium Platform Combustion) platform, which it will share with the upcoming Audi Q9. This solution will not only speed up the development of the model, but will also reduce costs by unifying production.
The power of hybrid versions, according to preliminary data, will vary from 348 hp. up to an impressive 739 hp, which is comparable to the top versions of the Cayenne. The salon will have 4, 5 or 7 seats.
The assembly of both models – the Porsche K1 and the Audi Q9 – will be carried out at the Bratislava plant, which will optimize costs. The debut of the new Audi is expected about a year before the release of Porsche, that is, around 2027. The key markets for the new product will be the USA and China.
