Porsche was disappointed in electric cars and again invests in the ICE

Due to the slow development of the “battery” segment, the automaker again wants to focus on internal combustion engines. Porsche officially stated that it plans to release new cars with ICE and connected hybrids, the expansion of the assortment of special versions and exclusive series. In the organizational structure, permutation is also expected.

About 800 million euros are invested in the development of new cars with ICEs, so in the near future Porsche’s profit will fall. The margin is expected to be reduced to 10-12%, which is significantly lower than the target indicator 17-19%. Unsuccessful financial results have already provoked the dismissal of Porsche top managers.

Although 2024 was the year of unfulfilled forecasts, Porsche remains the largest profit generator in the Volkswagen concern. However, the change of strategy affected the mood of investors: after the report, the promotion in the moment fell by seven percent to 55.5 euros apiece. Porsche closed the auction last week with the worst result from the moment of the IPO in the fall of 2022.

The initial Porsche strategy implied a gradual rejection of the internal combustion engine and a transfer to an electric trough of up to 80% of the model range by 2030. However, due to cooling the market of “batteries” cars, plans had to be adjusted: even the Macan crossover with gasoline units may reach the revival.
