Inflation has hit the Japanese car market: over the past 10 years, prices for Toyota Corolla have increased by 40-60%, depending on the model. The once affordable car is now forcing budget buyers out of showrooms. CarNewsChina reports this.
According to Nikkei Asia, citing the statistics bureau, the starting price of the Corolla has soared over the decade from 1.45 million yen (approximately 728 thousand rubles) in 2015 to 2.28 million yen (approximately 1.1 million rubles) in 2025. An increase of 57.2% turned the practical sedan into a rather expensive car.
However, the overall figure of 57% does not entirely reflect reality. In 2015, a budget version of the Corolla Axio was sold, which was discontinued in 2024 with a price tag of 1.64 million yen (803 thousand rubles). If we compare correctly, the growth is a more modest 13%. For comparison: the 2015 Toyota Auris hatchback cost from 1.79 million yen (approximately 900 thousand rubles). Its modern analogue, the 2025 Corolla Sport, starts from 2.46 million yen (approximately 1.2 million rubles). The difference is 37.4%.
