Negotiations between the Chinese and American auto giants concern not only Geely’s possible use of the Ford plant in Europe, but also technological cooperation in the field of automated driving.
“The companies are in talks for Geely to use production space at a Ford plant in Europe to make cars for the region, according to three people familiar with the talks. A potential structure for ride-sharing technologies, including automated driving, has also been discussed, according to two other people familiar with the talks,” Reuters claims.
Two agency sources say talks on production in Europe have advanced significantly and a Ford delegation headed to China this week following two meetings last week in Michigan, where Ford is headquartered. It was attended by senior executives from Geely and Ford.
Geely declined to comment on the negotiations; Ford said that the concern is constantly negotiating with many companies on a variety of issues.
