Road&Track named five cars whose production was secretly stopped

The publication noted that several modern electric vehicles that have recently entered the market will not be released in 2026, but they promise to return to service in 2027. Among them are models from the world’s leading automakers – Volkswagen, Audi, Hyundai and others.

The electric vehicle market in the United States is in a feverish state, and some automakers have found an original way not to completely abandon certain models, but to provide a kind of vacation for them. As a result, a number of high-profile car new products will simply skip the 2026 model year.

The main surprise came from Volkswagen. Minibus ID. Buzz, which only reached America in 2025, has already been temporarily discontinued. The official reason is significant warehouse stocks. VW told dealers it wanted to “focus resources on selling current vehicles” to face 2027 with fresh energy.

Dodge acted tougher: indefinitely postponed the release of the basic version of the electric Charger Daytona R/T. The company confirmed that he will not return in 2027 either. The more powerful version of the Scat Pack remains in service for now.

Hyundai is putting the Kona Electric on hold for a year. The Korean company, like Volkswagen, explained this by overproduction: there are enough 2025 cars in warehouses to cover demand. It was decided to resume production in June, but immediately from the 2027 model year.

Audi went its own way: the A6 and Q6 E-Tron sedans and crossovers will simply “step over” 2026: the company decided that they would release their updated versions for the 2027 model year with updated software.

The Polestar brand has the most difficult situation. Due to tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on the import of cars from China, the Polestar 2 has virtually disappeared from the American market. And although the model has not completely disappeared, its return is expected no earlier than 2028 – already in a new generation.

Previously, Volga and Tenet were included in the list of cars allowed for taxis in Russia.
