At the famous Montery Car Week show, Shelby American introduced its most, according to their assurances, an aggressive sports car for today-Shelby Super Snake-R. The machine, built on the basis of Ford Mustang Dark Horse, was created specifically for the track. It is a little more powerful than the basic version of Super Snake and received a number of point improvements aimed exclusively at racing tracks.
At the basis – the platform and the five -liter motor of Coyote V8 from the modern Mustang of the seventh generation. Shelby engineers added a mechanical supercharger and other modifications, squeezing “more than 850 horsepower” from the unit instead of the starting 507. For comparison, the usual Super Snake is weaker than a couple of dozens of horsepower. You can control this power through the six-speed “mechanics” Tremec TR-3160 or a ten-speed “automatic”.
Outwardly, Super Snake-R is very reminiscent of the basic Super Snake. The coupe has a fully adjustable suspension, modified aerodynamics (changed thresholds, increased anti-wing) and lightweight 20-inch magnesium wheels with Michelin tires 335 millimeters wide. Part of the body elements is made of carbon fiber, which reduces the weight of the supercope. Nevertheless, the total mass of the car turned out to be 1,816 kilograms, which is 53 kilograms more than that of Mustang Dark Horse on which it is founded.

This is the most aggressive Super Snake in history, ”emphasized the feature of the compartment operating vice president and senior designer Shelby American Vince Lawaylett.
