The Japanese automaker announced that Forester was the first to get an innovative security system for cyclists – an external eirbeg of increased size, which is inflated in front of the windshield and closes the front racks. The pillow is intended to protect the cyclist’s head from serious injuries in an accident.
Subaru claims that this is the first similar airbag in the world, which is already installed on serial cars. At the same time, the design was taken as the basis, first presented back in 2016. It was an eirbeg for pedestrians, revealing at the lower edge of the windshield, but it did not protect the cyclists who are higher. So Subaru increased the size of the pillow, “extending” it to the front racks.

The innovative pillow was the first to receive the new Subaru Forester, but so far only in the Japanese market. Whether this option will be offered in other countries is unknown.
There are other protection options for cyclists. For example, a few years ago, the Swedish manufacturer of the POC bicycle equipment combined with the Autoliv automobile security system company and created a bicycle helmet with Airbeh. The helmet was equipped with sensitive sensors and a built -in airbag, which reduces the risk of moderate or fatal head injury from 80 to 30 percent in collisions at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour.
