Taxi drivers want to be allowed to buy short-term passenger insurance

The State Duma plans to simplify insurance rules for taxi drivers by allowing them to buy short-term OSGOP policies for a period of 10 days or more. This innovation will help reduce the financial burden on carriers, especially those who work part-time. The bill is aimed at supporting small and medium-sized businesses, as well as the development of flexible forms of employment.

Taxi drivers may be allowed to purchase short-term insurance policies for passengers. The State Duma Committee on the Financial Market recommended adopting in the first reading a bill that would allow issuing OSGOP policies (compulsory insurance of civil liability of carriers to passengers) for a period of 10 days. Currently, drivers are required to buy insurance for a year, which creates a financial burden for those who use taxis as a part-time job.

The new bill is aimed at supporting small and medium-sized businesses, as well as developing tools for employment. The authors of the initiative note that short-term insurance will make working in a taxi more accessible for citizens who are not involved in transportation on a regular basis. This will also simplify the paperwork process for drivers, who will be able to be flexible in choosing insurance depending on their needs.

In the fall, it became known that due to a shortage of drivers, the cost of a taxi in Russia could increase significantly. The situation is aggravated by the tightening of migration policies and new rules regulating the activities of taxis. Many migrants who previously worked in this field are moving to more profitable industries, which creates additional difficulties for the transportation market.
