The ex-Toyota in Russia received a multi-million dollar loss

Shushary-Auto LLC, owning the Toyota plant in St. Petersburg, ended last year with a loss of 434 million rubles, Fontanka reports. For comparison: in 2023, the clean loss of the enterprise amounted to 283 million. For several years, the plant has been in a simple one, but it seems that its fate was finally decided: they are going to establish the production of Aurus cars on the site, and employees are already looking for new production.

Toyota closed the company in the village of Shushara in St. Petersburg in the fall of 2022. It crossed the Shushary-Auto-a subsidiary of the subordinate Ministry of Industry and Trade of FSUE by us.

The plant tried to restart several times, but each time something interfered with the process: insiders reported either unsuccessful negotiations with eastern partners, then about the negative impact of sanctions.

In March 2025, the company began to hire staff, and the Aurus personnel service took up the search. In particular, the company is looking for exterior engineers and interiors “for new and current models”, the leading engineer in the electrician and electronics of the car, the research and development manager in the field of electricus and electronics, as well as the chassis manager.

Who will help Aurus resurrect production after long downtime is still unknown. Earlier, the brand intended to put at least four models of business and premium class on the conveyor, including the sedan. At the beginning of last year, plans to establish the Aurus assembly at the “Toyota” plant were confirmed by the then head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov.
