The telegram channel “Buses and in general” claims that Liaz completely switched to domestic YaMZ units. Until recently, the gas versions of buses were equipped with Chinese Weichai Chinese engines, but now the alternative in the form of “turbochests” of the Yaroslavl Motor Plant is ready. However, on the official website of the GAZ Group, modifications with Weichai have remained so far.

Insiders reported the upcoming abandonment of Weichai diesel and gas engines last August, and the Domestic engines should have been made not only on the Liaza, but also on Nephas. The reason for “import substitution” is simple: due to sanctions, the purchase of WeICHAI can become economically impractical.

In the catalog on the official website of the Liaz, the Weichai engine remains at the buses of the 5292 line. This is an unit with a volume of 7.47 liters, which in diesel configuration develops 292 hp. and 1250 Nm, and on compressed natural gas issues 269 hp. and 1100 Nm. The alternative will become the YAMZ-536: the 6.65-liter domestic motor is designed for 276-285 horsepower with a constant torque of 1130 Nm, regardless of the type of fuel.

“Import substitution” of engines can be considered successful, but Russian bus producers will have to find an alternative to Chinese gearboxes: now there are no domestic machines ready for mass production. Moreover, some bus plants are purchased in the Middle Kingdom all transmission without exception.
