The Ministry of Industry and Trade sent a proposal to the relevant departments to limit the content of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in rubber, Izvestia reports, citing a letter from Deputy Head of the Ministry Mikhail Yurin to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Rosstandart.
“The Ministry of Industry and Trade initiated amendments to the technical regulations of the Customs Union “On the safety of wheeled vehicles” in terms of establishing the maximum content of certain PAHs in tires at the level of 0.25% bay protons. The capacities of Russian enterprises are fully capable of satisfying Russia’s domestic demand for car tires and have significant export potential,” the department clarified to Izvestia.
The initiative has already been agreed upon with the Ministry of Natural Resources, Rosstandart and the Ministry of Economic Development. Experts note that the problem of harmful substances is concentrated precisely in the budget segment, which occupies about a third of the market. Manufacturers save on oil purification by using cheap, highly aromatic components.
The new standards will create competitive advantages for domestic and largest global brands that initially comply with high environmental requirements, the Ministry of Industry and Trade added.
