It is expected that the innovation will take effect from July 1, 2026, and the budget will be able to receive up to 25 billion rubles a year, Kommersant reports.
“The government will support a bill allowing citizens to reserve “beautiful” license plates of certain series for money through the government services portal. The amendments were developed by the New People faction after the idea was supported by President Vladimir Putin. There are no specific prices yet – it is known that tariffs will depend on combinations of letters and numbers,” Kommersant reports.
The government noted that it is necessary to add more transparency to the procedure, and make the payment system flexible depending on the characteristics of the number. As the head of the Popular Front working group, Pyotr Shkumatov, explained, the mechanism can be built by analogy with the sale of numbers by mobile operators: the more “beautiful” the combination, the higher the cost.
The authorities have been making attempts to establish the legal sale of “beautiful” license plates for more than 15 years. The State Duma is expected to consider the bill during the spring session.
