The motorcycles on Topspeed’s list share key features: simple, proven engines, minimal electronics and body parts, wide availability on the secondary market, and high residual values.

Topping the list is the 2022 Harley-Davidson Iron 883. Although it has disappeared from the company’s lineup, the motorcycle remains one of the most affordable Harleys to own on the secondary market. Built around the proven V-twin Evolution engine, the Iron 883 has earned a reputation for reliability and ease of maintenance.

Its straightforward air-cooled design, minimal electronics, and huge selection of aftermarket parts make routine maintenance relatively inexpensive, especially for owners who prefer to do the repairs themselves.

Next up is the 2021 Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200, which remains an excellent choice for riders looking for a Harley with a low cost of ownership. Like the Iron 883, this model is built on the simple, reliable Sportster platform and features the proven air-cooled Evolution V-twin engine for easy, low-cost maintenance.

The next model is the 2026 Harley-Davidson Nightster. Thanks to its cheap price, it is one of the most affordable new motorcycles in the Harley-Davidson lineup. The lightweight frame and relatively modest dimensions help reduce tire, brake and overall wear and tear costs compared to heavier cruisers. At the same time, the Revolution Max engine provides high fuel efficiency, often reaching around 4.7 liters per 100 kilometers in the combined driving cycle.

Another model on the list is the 2014 Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide. It has a minimum of electronics, which simplifies maintenance. Equipped with a reliable Twin Cam engine, the Super Glide is renowned for its durability over long periods of use. It doesn’t cost much to own, which justifies its place on the list of Harleys that cost less to maintain than you might think.

The top five also includes the 2020 Harley-Davidson Street 750. The motorcycle’s lightweight frame reduces tire and brake wear, reducing ongoing maintenance costs compared to heavier cruisers. The Revolution X’s liquid-cooled engine delivers efficient performance and requires less frequent adjustments than many air-cooled Harleys, further reducing maintenance costs. On the secondary market, a significant price drop has made this model one of the cheapest Harleys to buy today.

Others in the top 10 of the 10 cheapest Harley-Davidson motorcycles to maintain include the 2024 Harley-Davidson Softail Standard, 2017 Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider, 2026 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy, 2026 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic and 2022 Harley-Davidson Road King.
