In January-March, 6.9 thousand new Japanese cars were registered in the Russian Federation – this is 2.2 times more than a year ago (3.3 thousand units). The brand’s market share has risen to 2.6%, the head of the Avtostat agency, Sergei Tselikov, said in his Telegram channel.
The main detail of the statistics: 88% of the “live” Toyotas that end up on Russian roads are made in China. There are practically no official supplies from Japan or European factories now, but parallel imports, coupled with the activity of dealers through the Middle Kingdom, continue to pump up the market, the expert noted.
The top five most popular models were headed by the RAV4 crossover – 2,350 units, plus 170% compared to last year. Next comes Highlander with a phenomenal jump: 2263 cars (+396%). The third place is occupied by the Camry sedan – 1264 units (+38%). The list is completed by the Land Cruiser Prado 150 (170 vehicles, an increase of exactly doubled) and Corolla (158 units), which was the only one in the top to show a drop of 13%.
Thus, despite all the restrictions, Toyota remains a desirable brand for Russian buyers.
