The AUTO Energetik blogger talked with the quality director of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant, Ildar Akhmetzyanov, and asked about the most discussed shortcomings. The specialist did not deny the problems: problems began to arise en masse, since in 2022 UAZ engineers had to urgently look for new components without stopping production.
Ildar Akhmetzyanov stated that leaks on bridges are associated with two vulnerabilities: on the one hand, oil escapes through the cups of the axle housings, on the other, through the shank oil seal. For the first problem, a solution was found in February 2024: the design was changed, additional oil seals were added to the axle housing. As for the liner, in the fall new equipment appeared to improve the processing of flanges, and after assembly, UAZ began to conduct life tests of bridges.

Leaks in antifreeze pipes on new cars are also being investigated. Work is underway with the clamp supplier to replace the material of the pipes and the design of the parts. Ildar Akhmetzyanov made it clear that the problem has not been completely resolved, but in November a batch of SUVs was produced for the All-Russian Popular Front, and they will have modernized pipes. We can conclude that the innovation will reach ordinary consumers later.
Along with fine-tuning current models, UAZ is engaged in new developments: tests of cars with a diesel engine and a 6-speed manual transmission are in full swing. Prototypes of such trucks have already been shown in Ulyanovsk; serial production is expected in 2025.
