The Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant will translate the name of its oldest SUV Hunter into Cyrillic. A correspondent for Motor magazine was informed about this by the press service of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant. The changes are related to the entry into force on March 1 of the law on the protection of the state language, which obliges the use of the Russian language in business communications, including signs and advertising.

“The model name in Cyrillic is currently undergoing registration; the Hunter version has already been registered by UAZ LLC in the trademark register,” the plant said.

The UAZ Hunter SUV has been produced since 2003 and is the direct successor to the army UAZ-469. In 2014, the model was considered obsolete and wanted to be discontinued, but in 2015 production was resumed with an updated engine for Euro-5 gasoline. In 2022, for the 50th anniversary of the model, a limited version of the SUV was released.

Now the car is produced with a 5-speed BAIC gearbox, a 2.7-liter gasoline engine producing 150 hp. The all-wheel drive system is unified with other models of the brand. The base price of this model in the 2026 model year version is 1.72 million rubles.

It was previously reported that UAZ is testing new diesel models in extreme conditions.
