Thus, the new “electric car” Volkswagen platform will be able to be equipped with internal combustion engines, but connections with the wheels are not formed. One of the most anticipated novelties on the SSP will be the ninth generation Golf, but the debut is postponed at the end of the 2020s.
The development of the SSP platform has been inhibited by serious problems with the software, and now it has become obvious: the demand for electric cars below the expectations. The first market for new products on the new architecture will be China, where consistent hybrids are gaining popularity. But the emergence of Volkswagen with technology in the spirit of Lixiang in Europe is doubtful due to the high cost.

Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schaefer believes that consistent hybrids are advisable only for large models for China and the USA. However, in other markets, a combined system of the PHEV type may be the best choice: current loaded hybrids already offer both quick charging and a solid supply of electric trustees.
